What we are going to learn?
What is Fantom?
Fantom is a decentralized, open-source, and permissionless smart-contract platform built on a consensus protocol called Lachesis. It provides faster, cheaper transactions with high security, and is compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing for easy smart contract creation and deployment. It can process thousands of transactions per second, achieves transaction finality in about one second, and offers absolute finality, meaning completed transactions can’t be reverted. It also allows multiple blockchains to operate independently while communicating with each other, each with their own custom tokens and governance rules.
What is FTM?
FTM is the native token of the Fantom network, used for securing the network through a Proof-of-Stake system, facilitating payments due to fast transaction times and low fees, and serving as the token for on-chain governance and network fees. The total supply is 3.175 billion, with 2.8 billion in circulation and the rest reserved for staking rewards. FTM can be bought on major exchanges and stored and staked in Fantom’s fWallet.

Why is FTM falling?
Fantom (FTM) has been experiencing a decline, which can be attributed to a combination of three key factors:
- Bear Market Conditions: Similar to many other altcoins, FTM’s value has plummeted by over 90%. This decline is not unique to Fantom and is rather a reflection of the overall bearish sentiment prevailing in the cryptocurrency market. In such a downturn, even robust projects like FTM can see significant erosion in their market value.
- Absence of Andre Cronje: Andre Cronje, a key figure associated with Fantom, has been conspicuously inactive for an extended period. This inactivity has led to a dip in investor confidence as many, including yourself, have invested in FTM largely due to Cronje’s involvement and support. The uncertainty generated by his absence is undeniably affecting FTM’s market performance.
- Multichain Hack Incident: The recent hack on Multichain, a widely used bridge for FTM transactions, has also dealt a significant blow to Fantom’s reputation and on-chain metrics. Many investors, developers, and whales who relied on this bridge suffered substantial losses due to the security breach. This event has caused serious concerns about the security and robustness of the Fantom ecosystem, deterring fresh investments and leading to a contraction in its value.
These factors combined paint a challenging picture for Fantom in the short-term. However, the return of Andre Cronje or the injection of fresh capital into the ecosystem could potentially rejuvenate FTM’s performance once the market conditions improve.
Some Important Stats for FTM token:
- 88% of the tokens in circulation: This indicates that a majority of the total FTM supply is already in the market, providing liquidity for trading and other activities.

- % since ATH -92.93%: The FTM token has dropped approximately 92.93% from its all-time high (ATH) value. This signifies the volatility of the crypto market and FTM’s potential for significant value changes.
- % to ATH 1,315.37%: To reach its ATH again, FTM would need to increase by roughly 1315.37%. This provides an indication of the potential upside if FTM returns to its peak value.
- Price ATH $3.46: The highest price ever reached by FTM was $3.46, indicating the token’s past performance and potential ceiling from a historical standpoint.

Should you buy FTM in 2023?
Before buying FTM or any other cryptocurrency, one should study the project in depth. Let us do a thorough analysis of FTM in terms of fundamental, onchain and technical analysis in order to understand if buying FTM in 2023 is a good idea or not.
FTM Fundamental Analysis
Fantom is EVM compatible blockchain that is able to process transactions faster, cheaper. Like Ethereum, one can build smart contracts on Fantom blockchain.
- Consensus Mechanism: Fantom’s unique Lachesis Protocol employs a DAG-based algorithm for the consensus process, making it significantly different from most blockchain platforms. It offers a leaderless, scalable, and asynchronous framework which enhances transaction speed and system scalability.
- EVM-Compatibility: Fantom’s Opera chain is Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible, which allows it to leverage the Ethereum ecosystem while maintaining its unique advantages. This interchain compatibility also extends to Binance, opening up access to a vast pool of digital assets and applications.
- Scalability: Fantom aims for an extremely high transaction rate of 300,000 transactions per second, positioning it as one of the fastest blockchain platforms. This could make it attractive for large-scale enterprise use-cases, high-frequency financial services, and other sectors demanding speed and efficiency.
- Byzantine Fault Tolerance: Fantom’s network is designed to tolerate up to one-third of its nodes being faulty, making it robust against certain forms of attacks or failures. This enhances the security of the network.
- Fast Transaction Finality: Fantom offers transaction finality within 1-2 seconds, significantly faster than most existing blockchains. This feature could make it particularly attractive for use-cases that require near-instant transaction confirmation, such as financial transactions.
- FTM Tokens: The FTM token serves as a utility token in the Fantom network, used to pay transaction and execution fees, and to participate in the network’s governance. As Fantom operates on a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, network validators stake FTM to run a node, collect staking rewards, and gain voting power proportional to the amount staked.
- DeFi Capabilities: Fantom has built a comprehensive DeFi suite that includes liquid staking, minting synthetic assets, lending, borrowing, and non-custodial trading. By successfully addressing the blockchain scalability trilemma, it is positioned to offer a strong alternative to Ethereum and other DeFi platforms.
FTM Onchain Analysis
- TVL: Since the Multichain hack, FTM TVL has taken a hit. Current TVL is just 64M USD. TVL all time high was 7.78Billion USD. We can see TVL has dropped by more than 99%. This is a major negative to the FTM ecosystem. We will have to wait and see how Fantom overcomes the TVL war. Among all the dapps, Spookyswap TVL is 24Million USD, highest among all Fantom dapps. Only 4 protocols on Fantom blockchain has a minimum of 5M TVL.
- Fees: Fantom currently generates only 3,173USD worth of fees every 24 hours.
- Holders; There are a total of 106,086 holders on Ethereum blockchain
FTM Technical Analysis
FTM-USDT analysis:
FTM- USDT may look bullish in a shorter timeframe, but it does not look too good for me to a trade. FTM may only be a good pick, if market makers decide to push the prices up somewhere in 2024 or 2025, in the bull cycle.
FTM-BTC analysis:
FTM – BTC is on a falling spree, and has broken the major support. Looking at the FTM/BTC chart, it looks bearish.
Is FTM a good pick in 2023? Here’s my personal opinion.
After conducting an in-depth analysis of FTM, both fundamentally and technically, our assessment indicates mixed prospects for this altcoin in 2023. From a fundamental standpoint, Fantom is a solid project with strong technological underpinnings. It boasts an innovative consensus mechanism, high transaction speed, EVM-compatibility, and a robust DeFi suite, making it a compelling platform in the blockchain space.
However, the technical and on-chain analysis reveals some weaknesses. The recent Multichain hack has significantly impacted FTM’s Total Value Locked (TVL), casting doubts about its immediate future. Moreover, the fee generation associated with the blockchain is also less than encouraging.
In summary, FTM might be a suitable pick for 2023 if you place significant trust in its core team, particularly Andre Cronje, and believe that market dynamics will favor the coin in the upcoming bull cycle. Nevertheless, given the current circumstances, Fantom does not present compelling reasons for investment based solely on its present state. As always, potential investors should perform their own due diligence and consider their risk tolerance before venturing into any cryptocurrency.
The FTM price prediction for 2025 suggests that the FTM token could oscillate between $0.35 and $2.07. Like most cryptocurrencies, Fantom is expected to maintain a bullish trend throughout 2025. Looking even further ahead to 2030, the maximum and minimum price predictions for FTM stand at $3.33 and $1.06, respectively.
Do not expect FTM to reach 10USD or 50USD anytime soon.
