Fantom (FTM) is a unique blockchain platform designed to overcome the limitations of traditional systems through speed, security, and scalability. Leveraging its innovative Lachesis Protocol and Ethereum-compatible Opera Chain, Fantom offers a novel solution to the blockchain trilemma. However, the journey of FTM has seen several ups and downs, including a significant setback due to the Multichain hack.

This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Fantom and delve into the future of FTM, covering price predictions from 2024 to 2030. From fundamental analysis to technical projections, we will explore various factors that could influence FTM’s trajectory in the coming years.

Fantom Foundation is rebranding Fantom blockchain to Sonic Network. $FTM coins will convert to S coins 1:1. The new Sonic blockchain will have a native Layer 2 bridge to Ethereum. This is expected to be a major positive development in 2024.

What is Fantom?

Fantom is a decentralized, open-source, and permissionless smart-contract platform built on a consensus protocol called Lachesis. It provides faster, cheaper transactions with high security, and is compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing for easy smart contract creation and deployment. It can process thousands of transactions per second, achieves transaction finality in about one second, and offers absolute finality, meaning completed transactions can’t be reverted. It also allows multiple blockchains to operate independently while communicating with each other, each with their own custom tokens and governance rules.

FTM Fundamental Analysis

Fantom is EVM compatible blockchain that is able to process transactions faster, cheaper. Like Ethereum, one can build smart contracts on Fantom blockchain.

  1. Consensus Mechanism: Fantom’s unique Lachesis Protocol employs a DAG-based algorithm for the consensus process, making it significantly different from most blockchain platforms. It offers a leaderless, scalable, and asynchronous framework which enhances transaction speed and system scalability.
  2. EVM-Compatibility: Fantom’s Opera chain is Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible, which allows it to leverage the Ethereum ecosystem while maintaining its unique advantages. This interchain compatibility also extends to Binance, opening up access to a vast pool of digital assets and applications.
  3. Scalability: Fantom aims for an extremely high transaction rate of 300,000 transactions per second, positioning it as one of the fastest blockchain platforms. This could make it attractive for large-scale enterprise use-cases, high-frequency financial services, and other sectors demanding speed and efficiency.
  4. Byzantine Fault Tolerance: Fantom’s network is designed to tolerate up to one-third of its nodes being faulty, making it robust against certain forms of attacks or failures. This enhances the security of the network.
  5. Fast Transaction Finality: Fantom offers transaction finality within 1-2 seconds, significantly faster than most existing blockchains. This feature could make it particularly attractive for use-cases that require near-instant transaction confirmation, such as financial transactions.
  6. FTM Tokens: The FTM token serves as a utility token in the Fantom network, used to pay transaction and execution fees, and to participate in the network’s governance. As Fantom operates on a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, network validators stake FTM to run a node, collect staking rewards, and gain voting power proportional to the amount staked.
  7. DeFi Capabilities: Fantom has built a comprehensive DeFi suite that includes liquid staking, minting synthetic assets, lending, borrowing, and non-custodial trading. By successfully addressing the blockchain scalability trilemma, it is positioned to offer a strong alternative to Ethereum and other DeFi platforms.

Is FTM a good pick in 2024?

Here’s my personal opinion.

After conducting an in-depth analysis of FTM, both fundamentally and technically, our assessment indicates mixed prospects for this altcoin in 2024. From a fundamental standpoint, Fantom is a solid project with strong technological underpinnings. It boasts an innovative consensus mechanism, high transaction speed, EVM-compatibility, and a robust DeFi suite, making it a compelling platform in the blockchain space.

However, the technical and on-chain analysis reveals some weaknesses. The recent Multichain hack has significantly impacted FTM’s Total Value Locked (TVL), casting doubts about its immediate future. Moreover, the fee generation associated with the blockchain is also less than encouraging.

In summary, FTM might be a suitable pick for 2024 if you place significant trust in its core team, particularly Andre Cronje, and believe that market dynamics will favor the coin in the upcoming bull cycle. Nevertheless, given the current circumstances, Fantom does not present compelling reasons for investment based solely on its present state. As always, potential investors should perform their own due diligence and consider their risk tolerance before venturing into any cryptocurrency.

And the rebrand to Sonic could be the catalyst that will take FTM price to 1$ in 2024.

Do not expect FTM to reach 10USD or 50USD anytime soon.
